Aseptic Sterilization
Contamination-control principles for non-clinical laboratory handling.
Research use only: This page addresses laboratory workspace and container handling. It does not describe administration to humans or animals.
Workspace Preparation
- Use a clean, low-traffic work area with a disinfected nonporous surface.
- Wash hands and use task-appropriate laboratory PPE.
- Stage sterile, single-use materials before opening containers.
Container Handling
- Disinfect closures and allow surfaces to dry fully.
- Minimize open-container time and avoid contact with sterile surfaces.
- Use a new sterile transfer device for each access event.
- Document any suspected breach and quarantine the affected material.
Pressure and Transfer Control
Introduce liquids slowly and control container pressure according to the supplier documentation. Never force a transfer against unexpected resistance.
